Raspberry Days kicks off today in Garden City

For more than 25 years, Garden City has hosted Bear Lake Raspberry Days, a festival that has become a long-standing tradition for many.
Garden City Town Clerk Kathy Hislop attributes the longevity of the annual three-day festival to locals who continue to attend and enjoy the three-day event.
"It's just a good festival," said Hislop, who attends Raspberry Days every year.
The 2010 Raspberry Days begins today with the Craft Fair, Raspberry Days Parade and a dance.
New this year is Bear Lake Valley Creations, a venue for local crafters, Hislop said. This event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day at the Garden City Town Center.
She said the Craft Fair will also be today, Friday and Saturday, running 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Hislop said other events include a rodeo on Friday and Saturday, a parade and the 5K Fun Run.
Hislop said the festival usually draws 30,000 to 40,000 people. A 12-member committee organizes the event, she said, and it typically begins planning for the August event in October of the previous year.
The first Raspberry Days festival was in 1984, Hislop said.
