2011 tourism numbers highest ever in Cache County

Tourism is on the rise in Cache County, according to the director of the Visitors Bureau. Collection of the transient room tax - a 3 percent sales tax on hotel stays in the county - was at its highest on record in 2011 at $359,159. That represents a 3.2 percent increase over 2010, and is 18.7 percent higher than in 2009. Another positive sign is an increase in the revenue per available hotel room. The average room rate in 2011 was $76.61 - up from $74.60 in 2010 and $76.23 in 2009. Last year, 57.9 percent of the available hotel rooms in the county were rented. That figure stood at 52.5 percent in 2010, and 47.8 percent in 2009. Herald Journal News
