USU secures $4.5 million donation for athletics facility

Utah State University Athletics Director Scott Barnes announced Friday morning a gift of $4.5 million from an anonymous donor to fund a new strength and conditioning center. The donation is the largest in the history of Aggie athletics. It will help fund the majority of a $6.2 million, 1,800-square-foot center that will feature areas for weight training, cardiovascular workouts, and speed and agility training, as well as offices for staff. According to Barnes, the age of the current facility and its equipment is at least 17 years old - the oldest of all of the strength and conditioning centers in the Western Athletic Conference.

Scheduled to be built on existing university property northwest of Romney Stadium, the state-of-the-art, multi-level facility should alleviate the crowding of 400 student athletes existing in the 5,800-square-foot conditioning center, university officials say. Herald Journal
