Logan sales tax revenue seeing slight increase

Logan's sales tax revenue is finally on the upswing after trending downward for the past few years. Although Finance Director Rich Anderson only has data for the first four months of this fiscal year - July through October 2010 - he said he's encouraged by what he's seen so far. "We're 1.77 percent higher than last year. When you're talking those dollars and all the variables are involved, that's really quite flat," Anderson said. "But I'm pleased that it's at that point. If you look at sales in Logan, we've been at negative growth for a long time." During the same period in 2009, sales tax revenues were down 5.9 percent compared to the year prior. And they decreased 5.32 percent in 2008 compared to that quarter the year before. Logan Herald Journal
